Over 55’s Lunch
Our popular 55+ Lunch Club meets every week in Batley (Thursday’s) & Huddersfield (Wednesday’s). For a small fee attendees enjoy a homemade hot lunch and dessert with a hot drink. Additional leisure activities, such as bingo, are on offer each week. It’s an opportunity to socialise and mix with others, which is crucial for well-being. It can also be combined with our Travel Companions service to get there. To find out what’s on this week’s menu, or to book a place – call either Brian Jackson House Huddersfield on 01484 519988 or Jo Cox House Batley on 01924 479082.

Half of the UK’s population aged over 75 live alone. 1 in 10 over the age of 65 say they often feel lonely, while 50% of all older people consider the television their main form of company. Our Volunteer Befrienders make a huge impact on isolated elderly people by visiting them in their home for company and conversation. Sometimes people sit and chat over a cup of tea, or they may play board games, watch TV or go out to a cafe.

Travel Companions are volunteers who offer their time to assist a client to carry out every day tasks such as shopping, GP appointments, community groups or simply getting fresh air! Our Travel companions are either: Car Companions – volunteers who use their own car, Public Transport Companions – using buses or taxis or Walking Companions. This service offers you friendship, company, support and confidence to get out into the community more.
