We are Improving lives; Inspiring change
Established in 1974, YCC is a regional charity that supports vulnerable and disadvantaged children and young people, and their families, within Kirklees and surrounding areas.
Our vision is for all young people to have opportunities for a better life, now and in the future.
We aim to ‘Improve lives and Inspire change’ and, through our four interwoven strands of work – Education, Health & Wellbeing, Employability & Skills, and Relationships – all helping to drive equality of opportunity and social justice forward – empowering individuals to make positive life choices and be the best they can be.
We provide early interventions and medium to longer-term support for children and those in a child’s circle of influence who are facing challenges with their social, emotional, and mental health – meaning we’re experts in dealing with the difficult everyday issues they face.
We listen, we respect, we include, and we care. And through the work that we do, we aim to make a positive and lasting difference for the people we support.
WHO WE SUPPORT
Support for Children
Children are at the heart of everything we do, and we deliver a wide range of services that support their health and wellbeing. From providing free vitamins and vouchers for fruit and vegetables, to hosting huge 2-week long events surrounding safety, we do as much as we possibly can to ensure that as many children as possible have quick and easy access to the support that they need.
Support for Parents & Families
We believe that in order to support children, we must ensure that they have a solid support system at home. That’s why we also provide services to the parents and wider families of children. This includes support into employment, child contact centres, parental conflict sessions, vitamins for expectant mothers, domestic abuse programmes for perpetrators and their victims, and e-learning courses.
Support for Young People
At YCC we understand that not every young person is suited to mainstream education. YCC runs two alternative provision colleges in Heckmondwike and Huddersfield. These colleges support students’ health, wellbeing and safety, whilst helping them through their GCSEs and vocational qualifications that will help them transition into adulthood, learning skills in subjects they are passionate about.
Support for Adults
We are committed to helping everyone in the communities where we operate. That’s why we also offer several services for adults that range from providing 121 support into employment, to going into the community to provide information and inspiration to everyone. We also run two specialised services with the help of our community volunteers, to provide support and kindness to those who are lonely and isolated.
